UK Terminals and Health & Safety Manager
Salary: £60,000 per annum + £5,000 Car Allowance
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Location: Portland (Dorset) & Sharpness (Gloucestershire) Depots
Reporting Line: UK General Manager
Job Purpose
To lead and manage all UK terminal operations with full accountability for health, safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency. The role ensures the safe, compliant, and effective coordination of maintenance and personnel, while embedding a strong safety culture across all activities taking responsibility for operational budgets, cost control and maintaining alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Health & Safety Leadership
Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Health & Safety policies, procedures, and systems across all UK operations.
Ensure full compliance with UK health & safety, and environmental legislation, including COSHH and safe systems of work.
Promote a proactive safety culture, ensuring all employees and contractors operate in a safe and compliant manner.
Conduct and review risk assessments, method statements, and safe working procedures.
Ensure all incidents, near misses, and hazards are reported, investigated, and corrective actions implemented.
Coordinate safety training, inductions, and competency development (e.g., manual handling, working at height, first aid).
Support internal and external audits, including third-party safety inspections.
Monitor contractor compliance with company safety standards and site rules.
Work with management to ensure safe vehicle movement systems and safe loading/unloading practices across terminals.
Ensure safe storage, handling, and movement of materials within all operational areas.
Operations, Logistics & Financial Management
Manage and monitor operational budgets across terminals, logistics, and staffing costs
Control and report on operational expenditure, ensuring adherence to agreed financial limits
Identify and deliver cost-saving initiatives and efficiency improvements across all operational areas
Support forecasting, financial planning, and variance analysis in collaboration with Finance
Ensure accurate capture and reporting of operational costs for financial reporting
Performance management and review of the operations team.
Maintain accurate operational records, including daily stock levels, and order tracking via Google Sheets and internal systems.
Ensure end-of-day reporting is completed, audited, and submitted to finance teams.
Liaise with depot management to maintain accurate stock levels and reporting.
Coordinate with maintenance teams to address plant breakdowns and adjust production forecasts accordingly.
Adjust working schedules and arrange additional shifts to meet operational and stock requirements.
Ensure effective communication between front office and depot teams to support daily stock control processes.
Provide out-of-hours operational support for vessel movements and logistics issues when required.
Liaise with vessel agents, stevedores, and depot teams to ensure efficient and cost-effective discharge operations.
Conduct regular stock assessments and audits to ensure accuracy and accountability.
Identify and report stock discrepancies and liaise with Finance to ensure appropriate provisions are made.
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of sales and stock data to internal stakeholders.
Maintain effective communication with internal teams, head office, and international stakeholders regarding health & safety, projects and operational plans.
General Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and financial regulations.
Support operational planning during periods of leave and absence.
Assist in maintaining orderly, safe, and efficient storage and facility operations.
Open and close facilities as required.
Promote a culture of fairness, accountability, and respect across the organisation.
Undertake any additional duties required to support the effective operation of the business.
Undertake regular travel to other UK operational sites, and visit Spain when required.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Requirements
Qualifications:
Relevant qualification in Health & Safety (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate Level 3 or equivalent).
Mechanical / electrical engineering qualification (desirable).
Experience & Technical Skills:
Proven experience in a Health & Safety leadership role within an industrial, logistics, or manufacturing environment.
Strong background in logistics, shipping, or terminal/depot operations.
Experience managing teams and coordinating staffing requirements.
Demonstrable experience in implementing and managing HSE systems and compliance frameworks.
Knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Sheets.
Experience with operational systems (e.g., Opera, XRL or similar).
Strong analytical and reporting skills.

Full UK Driving licence
